At the Cannes Film Festival’s premiere of his new film Asteroid City, Tom Hanks was seen scolding a worker on the red carpet. The 66-year-old, known for his calm demeanor, displayed visible frustration as he directed a pointed finger toward the young individual. Joining Hanks on the red carpet was his wife, Rita Wilson, also seen holding her hand up in front of her as she spoke to the unnamed staffer.
Looking elegant in his tuxedo suit and a tasteful bow tie, Tom Hanks conversed in what looked like an attempt to calm the situation.
However, a hint of irritation remained visible on Hank’s face as the trio spoke before gracefully moving along the red carpet, pausing momentarily for photos at the event. Hanks opted for a black tuxedo, which he paired with a white shirt. His partner Rita looked breathtaking in a chic black dress with a long black cloak that flowed the ground behind her.
Rita’s dress was designed with silver jewels which sparkled under the spotlights on the red carpet.
Meanwhile, Asteroid City, directed by Wes Anderson, is set in the 1950s in a fictional American desert town that has an eerie feel to it. The stage is set at a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention, where students and their parents converge for a scholarly competition. But the tranquility of the event got shattered when an unforeseen global event unfolds, plunging the proceedings into chaos and disarray.
The story follows a widower played by Jason Schwartzman, who takes his four children to see their grandfather, played by Hanks.
‘In my loneliness, I’ve learned to give complete and unquestioning faith to the people I love,’ Hanks’ character tells Schwartzman. ‘I don’t know if that includes you, but it included my daughter and your four children.’ In a scene leading to see Grandpa Hanks, Jason’s car broke down and it was taken to Asteroid City to get repaired. His son, played by Jake Ryan immersed himself in an unwavering fascination with the city’s annual junior stargazer competition.
As the story unfolds, the family finds themselves drawn into the enigmatic city, where rumors and anxieties about extraterrestrial phenomena pervade. Also in the movie are Rita Wilson, Tom Hanks’s wife, Tilda Swinton, Matt Dillon, Bryan Cranston, Ed Norton, Adrien Brody, and Liev Schreiber. The film also features notable appearances; Hope Davis, Stephen Park, and Rupert Friend. Maya Hawke, daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, has a role in the movie.
Cannes Red Carpet Manager Reveals Last Night’s Encounter With The Actor And His Wife
Hanks was noticeably absent from this morning’s Asteroid City photo call in Cannes after his altercation with a staffer at the movie’s premiere. But then, his wife, Rita cleared up the confusion, insisting she and her husband Hanks simply couldn’t hear what the staffer was saying. The Cannes red carpet manager Chapalain has also come forward to corroborate the actress’s story.
Hanks wasn’t seen at the well-attended photo call, where co-stars Scarlett Johnson, Bryan Cranston, Jason Schwartzman, and others were lapped up with applause.
Speaking of the Hanks’ incident, Chapalain, who has worked at the festival for ten years told DailyMail, ‘Nothing happened at all, the photo is totally misleading.’ He then added that the couple asked him if they should go back to the start of the red carpet with the other stars. Nonetheless, sources close to the actor claim he was never slated to appear at the photo call and is due back in the US for a different event today.
