Student, 22, Who Crushed At Travis Scott’s Concert Is Declared Brain Dead
Rest in peace, Bharti.
Bharti Shahani attended the Astroworld concert with her sister Namrata Shahani and cousin Mohit Bellani. But the trio got separated in the chaos which happened on Friday night. Four days after the tragedy, 22-Year-Old Bharti was announced brain dead, having suffered multiple heart attacks during Travis’ concert’s deadly crush.
Bharti Shahani, 22, showed no brain activity after she was injured during the Astroworld concert.
The senior at Texas A&M was on a ventilator at Houston Methodist Hospital. According to her dad in an interview with ABC13, the medics had also told the family her chances of survival are nothing. She lost oxygen several minutes, which doctors said led to the swelling of her brain stem, the part of the organ connected to the spine.
Bharti, sister Namrata, and cousin Bellani went to the concert but lost when the crowd surged.
Bellani, who survived the crash, told ABC that the incident was like a sinkhole, as people fell on top of each other. “There were like layers of bodies on the ground, like two people thick. We were fighting to come up to the top and breathe to stay alive.” Bellani explained. Both Namrata and Bellani misplaced their cell phones and were unable to find Bharti at the concert.
Bharti was in critical condition and on a ventilator in Houston Methodist Hospital before passing away.
“Once we let go of her hand, the next time we saw her, we were in the ER,” Namrata told the news agency. Bharti’s parents reportedly rushed to NRG stadium when they heard about the news and then traveled to several hospitals in Houston before finding their daughter. Bharti, who studies computer programming, would have graduated in the spring. Her dad, Sunny Shahani, claims she planned to take over the family business.
However, ambulances were spotted outside the venue on Friday night amid the chaos.
“They took us to her room; she was bleeding and on a ventilator. Me and my wife were too shocked. We can’t even stand in there.” Sunny expressed. However, Scott and Drake are being sued by 68 victims for inciting mayhem and stand to lose billions after over 300 casualties were treated at an emergency field hospital – 11 went into cardiac arrest while dozen was knocked unconscious at the concert.
