Late Monday, news broke that Bryan Randall, Sandra Bullock’s longtime partner, has passed away after a private, three-year battle with ALS. Per the PEOPLE, the actress, 59, first met with the model when he photographed her son Louis’ birthday in 2015. In the same year, the pair went public with their romance but largely kept the relationship private.
While Sandra Bullock has yet to speak about Randall’s death, her sister Gesine has taken to Instagram to pay tribute to the late photographer.
“I’m convinced that Bry has found the best fishing spot in heaven and is already casting his lure into rushing rivers teaming with salmon,” Gesine wrote “ALS is a cruel disease, but there is some comfort in knowing he had the best of caretakers in my amazing sister and the band of nurses she assembled who helped her look after him in their home,” she added. “Rest in peace, Bryan.”
Just as Randall’s family announced, Gesine urged that, in place of flowers, donations be made to ALS Research and Massachusetts General Hospital in the model’s honor.
ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, per the ALS Association. The symptoms of the disease can be varied and can include trouble grasping a pen or lifting a coffee cup, while some may experience a vocal pitch when speaking, the ALS Association added. Per the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, ALS has no cure.
Over the years, Sandra Bullock has kept her relationship with Randall very private.
The two had been photographed at the Oceans 9 world premiere in June 2018 in New York City. While speaking on the Red Table Talk in 2021, with Jada Pinkett Smith, Adrienne Banfield-Norris, and Willow Smith, the Miss Congeniality star opened up about her relationship with Randall, saying at the time, ‘I am someone who went through the divorce process. I found the love of my life.’
In their statement to ET, the family of Bryan Randall claimed the model chose early to keep his journey with ALS private and that those who cared for him did their best to honor his request. “We are immensely grateful to the tireless doctors who navigated the landscape of this illness with us and to the astounding nurses who became our roommates, often sacrificing their own families to be with ours,” his family wrote in a statement to the outlet.
