Sandra Bullock Defended By Fans Amid Shocking ‘Blind Side’ Star Michael Oher’s Claims
Sandra Bullock is defended by fans after The Blind Side star Michael Oher’s claims his ‘adoptive’ parents swindled him.
The Tuohys had become popular through the acclaimed 2009 film The Blind Side. Now, the couple, Sean and Leigh Anne, have hit the headlines over claims they allegedly tricked Michael Oher into signing a document that automatically made them conservators and not his parents—in other words, they were able to legally act upon business interests in his name as well as make profits off him.
The Blind Side star himself, Michael Oher, alleged in his suit that, among other things, he only recently found out the Tuohys didn’t legally adopt him.
There was quite a widespread belief that Oher was indeed the adopted son of Sean and Leigh Anne, the latter of whom was played by Sandra Bullock in the Academy Award-winning role. Oher’s claims of being swindled by the Tuohys come exactly 14 years after the actress won an Oscar for the film depicting his life. And as a result of the suit, some fans are suggesting Sandra give her Best Actress Oscar back.
ESPN was the first to report that Michael Oher filed a 14-page petition in Shelby County, alleging the central position of the film, Blind Side, was a lie and that the Tuohy family used him as a means of acquiring wealth.
‘I am disheartened by the revelation shared in the lawsuit today. This is a difficult situation for my family and me. I want to ask everyone to please respect our privacy at this time. For now, I will let the lawsuit speak for itself and will offer no further comment,’ Oher said in a statement. Per the Daily Memphian, Sean Tuohy has responded to the allegations, insisting they will keep loving Michael.
According to the media outlet, Sean said, ‘We are going to keep loving Michael,’ and that the allegations have ‘devastated’ his family. He then explained that the conservatorship was drawn up years ago to ensure that Oher, now 37, was eligible to play football at the University of Mississippi. He also debunked the ongoing rumor that his family profited handsomely from the Oscar-winning film, Blind Side, which grossed over $305 million.
While some fans think that Sandra Bullock should return her Oscar award, most have come to her defense, declaring, ‘how was she supposed to know?’
One fan wrote: ‘People are really blaming Sandra Bullock?” If Michael Oher didn’t know until recently, how tf was she supposed to know? Another penned: ‘Someone said if Michael Oher didn’t know until 2023, how was Sandra Bullock supposed to know? She just lost her partner and her children just lost their father; leave them alone.’
Someone else wrote: ‘Def vile on Tuohy’s part, but what does Sandra Bullock have to do with this? She was the actress, not a private investigator. How was she supposed to know this is what was going on at that time?’ The comments continued, ‘Now what y’all NOT gon do is blame Sandra Bullock for that Blind Side mess. If that lady fooled everybody, even journalists and the adoptee,” how was Sandy supposed to know? Shut UP.’
Another stated, ‘Sandra Bullock starred in the fictionalized adaptation of “The Blind Side.” It is misguided and unfair to assign blame to her for the new and deeply disturbing allegations about the real-life story.’ Someone added, ‘Kind of weird of some of you to demand Sandra Bullock answer for her role in The Blind Side as if she knew anything about it when Michael himself said he only started looking into things in 2016, almost a decade after The Blind Side came out.
