Restaurant Server Leaves People Horrified As She Lifts The Lid On Secret Unhygienic Practices

The restaurant server has seen the unhygienic restaurant practices firsthand, and they include dishware and cutlery that merely get rinsed or scraped if they come out still covered in food, dirty dishrags being used to clean tables, and leftover crust getting scraped off plates.

@tequila.9 made the mentioned above known in a TikTok [now-viral], in response to another user’s [@kuyyannynu] clip about restaurant dishwashers. 

She shared in her 30-second clip: “I apologized in advance for this info. I promise you that [that] fork you’re eating with came out of the washer with spinach on it that just got rinsed off. “I promise you that the table you’re eating off of only got wiped down with a stank kitchen rag that was wet from a dirty dishwasher.”

The server added: “I promise that whoever set your table was scraping crust off your plate with nails immediately before you used it.” 

And concluded with: “And I’m willing to bet that if the health department showed up to the restaurant you’re eating at right now, everybody in the kitchen would be going crazy in the walk-in fridge, changing all the dates on the food.” @tequila.9’s video has since earned over 4 million views, and there were restaurant employees who backed up the claims in the comments.

In a follow-up video, prompted by a troll’s comment, the server explained she has mostly worked at chain restaurants and is truly happy for restaurant workers who have never experienced the things she has at work. 

The troll had reportedly argued, saying: “Y’all out here confirming s**t like this, then in the same breath want us to fill in the gap on wages with tips.” In response, the server claimed that “the main factor at play here is simple.” “It’s primarily a lack of resources, which is absolutely the responsibility of a company and not its employees.” She noted that the issues often arise when the restaurant is understaffed and packed, leaving little time for them to clean the way they should. 

“When you have a finite number of teammates and an infinite number of tasks, and management is explicit about making the customers’ experience priority over anything else, why do you think that the back of the house processes would be a priority to anyone?” According to the TikToker, incentives are also an ongoing issue. She continued: “If you’re a clean – I was a clean server – that’s great, but you can’t police the other servers, the bar, the kitchen, or the bussers.”

“And more importantly, you shouldn’t.” For what? A couple of dollars an hour and s***y tips because of people like this? “Base wage for service workers is not a living wage or even close to it.” You are one person on a shift in an operation with dozens of moving parts all the time. You’re in the comments writing about how the filth of restaurants is somehow a reflection of character when you can just say you’re too s****y and broke to tip.” 

“You don’t wanna tip service workers because you think they’re bad at their jobs and you want them to get better, but you want them to be motivated to get better despite constantly s****y pays. This is goofy. You’re goofy. Find a better excuse for being broke and not tippy or just don’t eat out.” However, some servers who have worked in the food industry insisted they’ve never experienced the things @tequila described.
