Police Flipped This Pregnant Woman’s Car Because She Didn’t Pull Over Fast Enough

A police officer from Arkansas has been sued after causing a speeding car driven by a pregnant woman to flip. This happened just one mile before they reached the next exit on the highway in Jacksonville, Arkansas. Nicole has since filed a lawsuit for excessive use of force from the PIT maneuver practice that put her unborn baby at risk.

“I’m pregnant! I wasn’t fleeing!”

The incident happened last year in June. Nicole Harper was speeding 14 miles over the limit when officer Rodney Dunn spotted her and turned on his siren. Nicole immediately turned on her hazard lights and slowed down, waiting for the right place to pull over.

The street’s shoulder was too narrow for her to stop, and she considered waiting until the next exit at a well-lit area, all according to how drivers are expected to do per Arkansas Driver License Study Guide’s rules.

But this only lasted for two minutes.

Officer Dunn, on the other hand, still considered Nicole’s slowing down with hazard lights on as a fleeing attempt. He crashed onto her rear side and broke her lights, causing her to crash on a wall before flipping over.

This driving maneuver is called the ‘pursuit intervention technique,’ or PIT maneuver, one that is often used by officers to stop fleeing cars. PIT maneuver has been the direct cause of death to at least 30 people since 2016.

As seen on the dashcam on Dunn’s police car, he slowly made his way to the crashed red SUV. “Are you the only one in the vehicle?” state trooper Dunn asked. Nicole could be heard screaming in panic, “Yes! I’m pregnant!”

When Nicole pointed out that she had flashed her hazard lights, Dunn dismissed her and said that it doesn’t matter. Believing she’d lost the baby, Nicole soon had her bump checked and gave birth to a baby girl this February.

A lawsuit has been filed against the officer for excessive use of force.
