Photographer Is Heavily Accused Of Racism After Using Perfect Black Model To Get Famous
The perfect black model was created to spread the message of empowerment and inclusivity
There are thousands of gorgeous models on Instagram, but Shudu Gram is truly one of a kind. And even as everyone praises the perfect black model, there’s one thing you should know—she doesn’t actually exist. Cameron-James Wilson, a self-taught British photographer, created his perfect black model after learning about 3D modelling and using both YouTube videos and online resources.
Wilson, 28, claimed Shudu represents what he had always seen as beautiful but something he doesn’t see often. He says his intentions are to spread the message of empowerment and inclusivity, which many praise his talent for digital art. He told Isiuwa Igodan in an interview, “Although there’s a slight change happening now, more people need to question what really is beautiful.”

Meet Shudu Gram, the perfect black model who won hearts of many with her shining skin and gaze
She’s the true definition of black is beautiful.
But more recently, she has even generated rumors around herself.
It’s not because of her beauty but for the fact she’s not actually a real model.
Shudu is a digital creation of Cameron, a photographer from Great Britain.
Shudu is mainly created using online resource tools.
Following the discovery that Shudu isn’t a real model, there was a huge backlash from people around the web, insisting that by creating a black perfect model, the photographer wants to take away jobs from real black women. “A white photographer figured out a way to profit off of black women without ever having to pay one,” wrote a Twitter user. “Now, please tell me how our economic system is in no way built on and quite frankly reliant on racism, misogyny, and blacksploitation.”
Wilson appears to be unfazed by the negativity, highlighting that “Shudu is just everything I’m passionate about brought together.”
He added, “She embodies the best parts of the things that inspire me.”
And continued, “A lot of what we see in media is trying to be less real, with filters and makeup.”
He then insisted, “Shudu is coming from the other direction.”
“She’s a fantasy trying to break through into reality and I have plans to help her do so.”
When asked about what he thinks about the negativity, Wilson says he had no ill intention and isn’t planning on using Shudu as a commercial model.
He concluded, “To me she’s special, yes, but as are millions of real-life African men and women.”
According to Wilson, his perfect black model is to spread inclusivity
But there have been huge criticisms from people online.
Some people have accused the photographer of racism, with another user writing, “Hold tf on. So someone “made up” a black model when they actually could’ve just hired a real-life black one? At your big, big age. Trash!” A third, however, defended the artist and his art, writing, “As someone who actually knows the artist, he was inspired. He’s a photographer and a digital artist. He created Shudu to show his inspiration. No, he couldn’t just take a picture. That’s the point of digital art.
Someone else pointed out, “It’s just art; relax. Moreover, I think it’s antiracism. And of course, very beautiful. Stop making such nonsense.”
