Netflix Acquired Rights To Stream ‘Seinfield’ Beginning In 2021
They come and go.
Giant companies are looking forward to releasing their own streaming services and the time is drawing near. On November 1, Apple TV+ will launch and in less than two weeks on November 12 is the biggest contender, Disney+.
In preparation for their exclusive streaming services, these companies have been pulling out their best shows from Netflix. Netflix position has been put in jeopardy as many old and gold shows are leaving the service. ‘Friends’, ‘Supernatural’, Marvel Studios’ movies and Disney cartoons have had their dates marked.
Variety confirms that Netflix has struck global streaming right to the180-episode comedy series. The sitcom which has its distribution rights handled by Sony Pictures Entertainment. ‘Seinfield’ originally airs on NBC roughly 30 years ago.
Chairman of Sony Television, Mike Hopkins said, “‘Seinfeld’ is a one-of-a-kind, iconic, culture-defining show. Now, 30 years after its premiere, ‘Seinfeld’ remains center stage. We’re thrilled to be partnering with Netflix to bring this beloved series to current fans and new audiences around the globe.”
Speaking to The Wrap, the chief content officer of Netflix Ted Sarandos, said, “It is as fresh and funny as ever and will be available to the world in 4K for the first time. We can’t wait to welcome Jerry, Elaine, George, and Kramer to their new global home on Netflix.”
Of course, Netflix is still a successful giant that is still making some of the best originals, like ‘Stranger Things’ and is also the place to go when good shows from other channels got axed, like ‘Lucifer’. They have also been the place to go for original movies and series of other countries.
