Native American Boy Left In Tears After Two Bullies Cut His Hair In Class

“This is not gonna fly. This ain’t right.”

Andreas Garcia returned home from Del City Elementary without his usual and traditional long locks. The 7-Year-Old has the back of his hair cropped close to his scalp, leaving an unattractive patch with longer strands of hair on either side. His family wasn’t notified until last weekend when students and staff were already dismissed for Spring Break.

The Native American boy told KOCO while in tears the incident happened after doing his homework.

He claimed the two bullying classmates started cutting his hair, and their teacher wasn’t looking as she was just on her laptop. Reacting, Andreas’s parents claimed the incident affected him as he hasn’t smiled since losing his hair. His dad, Jamal Garcia, has since slammed his son’s teacher for not paying attention to what had happened.

“How do you not notice two kids standing over someone and getting their haircut?” Jamal questioned.

He added his son was the victim of one of the worst cases of bullying that he had ever heard of. “This is not gonna fly. At all. This ain’t right. This is our tradition.” He continued: “Knowing that the school did not contact me at all until Saturday morning and yet they want to investigate it, but not until Monday when school goes back in, so I feel like they were just trying to sweep it under the rug.”

Andreas’ mom, Denise Gonzalez, has said: “He had beautiful, long hair, and all of a sudden it gets cut. It hurts.”

However, Mid-Del Public Schools has released a statement that says it has launched an investigation on the same day the incident occurred and that it’s taking the matter seriously. They wrote: “We recognize the cultural significance of hair to our students’ identities and do not take this lightly. Any students found to be involved will receive discipline in a manner consistent with steps outlined in our student handbook.”

The district added that it couldn’t resolve the incident without first talking to the students involved.

They continued that they had a heavy snow day in the area, which led to canceled classes, and spring break put off their investigation until classes were back in session. On the other hand, Garcia has threatened to remove his son from Del City Elementary, confessing it isn’t the first time his son has been bullied.

And no matter what happens next, Andreas intends to fully grow his hair back to its length.
