Mark Zuckerberg Says ‘It’s Time To Move On’ As He Whines Elon Musk Isn’t Serious With Fight
Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk were slated to go head-to-head in a cage match in Italy.
The Meta CEO took to Threads and later to his Instagram Story Sunday, to declare he’s ready to “move on” from discussions surrounding the highly anticipated face-off fight with fellow tech CEOs in Italy. Mark Zuckerberg slammed the SpaceX founder for not being serious about the fight, especially as Elon Musk won’t confirm a date and now needs surgery.
Mark Zuckerberg’s decision comes as Elon Musk revealed he has an injured shoulder and needs surgery. He noted the recovery process would take months, ruling out a fight any time soon.

Musk’s tweet from August 11th says, “I spent 3 hours in an MRI machine on Monday. The bottom line is that my C5/C6 fusion is solid, so not an issue. However, there is a problem with my right shoulder blade rubbing against my ribs, which requires minor surgery. Recovery will only take a few months.’ In an earlier tweet, the Tesla founder claimed proceeds from the fight would go to veteran and pediatric hospitals in Italy.
But Mark Zuckerberg, who had been in jiu-jitsu training long before Musk’s invite, spoke out following the tweets and insisted that nothing is agreed upon regarding the purported match.

‘I think we can all agree Elon isn’t serious and it’s time to move on. I offered a real date. Dana White offered to make this a legit competition for charity,’ Zuckerberg wrote referencing UFC head, Dana White’s role in turning the fight into a charity event. The META Founder claims Musk isn’t serious about the fight, won’t confirm a date and now reportedly needs surgery before taking on him. For now, he said ‘he’s going to focus on competing with people who take the sport seriously.’

Zuckerberg continued, “Elon won’t confirm a date, then says he needs surgery, and now asks to do a practice round in my backyard instead. If Elon ever gets serious about a real date and an official event, he knows how to reach me. Otherwise, it’s time to move on.” Two months ago, Musk, 52, tweeted an invite to Zuckerberg for a cage fight, first proposing it occur at the Vegas Octagon. At the time, he shared that the fight would take place in Rome and added that the location had been secured.

In his tweet at the time, Musk, the X owner said he has spoken to both Italy’s prime minister and its culture minister about facing off with Mark Zuckerberg at the epic location in Rome.
“They have agreed on an epic location,” Musk wrote. “Everything in the camera frame will be ancient Rome, so nothing modern at all.” But then, the capital Rome has now been ruled out. In his statement, Mark Zuckerberg further claimed he loves the sport and that he’s been ready to fight since the day Musk challenged him, adding ‘If he ever agrees on an actual date, you’ll hear it from me. Until then, please assume anything he says has not been agreed on.’

Zuckerberg concluded, ‘Not holding my breath for Elon, but I’ll share details on my next fight when I’m ready. When I compete, I want to do it in a way that puts a spotlight on the elite athletes at the top of the game. You do that by working with professional orgs like the UFC or ONE to pull this off well and create a great card.’ Nonetheless, Las Vegas had been pitched as the potential location for the fight but reports back in June claimed the Colosseum could now be an option. For now, it’s fingers crossed as we await Elon Musk’s response.
