Jeff Bezos’ Ex-Wife MacKenzie Scott Filed For Divorce From Teacher
The divorce filing was submitted this week.
Mackenzie Scott is ending her marriage to high school chemistry teacher Dan Jewett just after a year they tied the knot. The 52-year-old filed for divorce in Washington State this Monday after removing mentions of her second husband from her charity site.
Scott announced her marriage to Jewett at her Giving Pledge site back in March 2021 by adding his name to the pledge she made, which is to donate most of her wealth to the organization.
Scott was thorough – she also removed his name from a Medium post that also mentioned Jewett on their efforts in giving their utmost to the charity. Scott’s attorney has refused to comment on the reason.
New York Times was the first to report the minuscule changes and later, the divorce filing.
Scott has received the title of the most philanthropic woman by donating assets after assets and a majority of her wealth. She maintains a low public profile so far and would only write about her philanthropic endeavors and encourage others by sharing awareness and means to do it.
Jewett resigned from his teaching job at a private high school and said that he didn’t want to be a distraction last year.
Jewett wrote at the site when his name first emerged in a letter addressed at the site, “And now, in a stroke of happy coincidence, I am married to one of the most generous and kind people I know – and joining her in a commitment to pass on an enormous financial wealth to serve others.”
Scott was previously married to Jeff Bezos for 25 years before divorcing him with 4% of Amazon stocks. She has donated a total of $12.8 billion and has been indexed as one of the richest women alive.
Bezos is now dating Lauren Sánchez, a 52-year-old model, and they were spotted on the red carpet for the Amazon Prime Video premiere of ‘The Rings of Power.’
After their marriage, Scott continued with her philanthropic acts with Dewett but with much secrecy. They keep their donation personal, which means only the receiver would be informed of who made the donations.
She’s also refused to have her donations be reported to the media unless she decided to write about them in her posts, as she doesn’t want to overshadow the organizations that she donated to.
Scott’s latest donation was to The Health Forward Foundation in Kansas City with a total of $35 million in gifts and another $20 million to The Episcopal Health Foundation in Houston.
