Kim Kardashian is branded selfish for collaborating with Babyface while recording an album with her family.
The TV star is currently facing backlash over trying to collaborate with Babyface while recording an album with her family. Babyface, Kim Kardashian along with her sisters Khloe and Kourtney, as well as their mom Kris Jenner, agreed to record an Xmas album in the latest episode of The Kardashians, but then the 42-year-old snuck off to secretly call the producer, 64, and begged him to produce her song.
A scene from the episode showed the group around a piano for a singing lesson with a vocal instructor before Kim went on to call and beg Babyface to produce her song.
Who is Babyface?
Babyface, whose birth name is Kenneth Brian Edmonds, is a distinguished American singer, songwriter, and producer celebrated for his remarkable achievements, including securing 12 Grammy Awards.
Hailing from Indianapolis, this talented artist found solace in songwriting from a young age, channeling his emotions through music. It was during his journey in the world of music that he crossed paths with funk performer Bootsy Collins, who affectionately dubbed him “Babyface” in recognition of his youthful appearance.
Before embarking on his successful solo career, Babyface honed his musical talents through various engagements. He lent his guitar skills to the group Manchild and served as a keyboardist and guitarist for the Deele. Furthermore, his songwriting prowess was evident with the creation of the hit track “Slow Jam” for Midnight Star.
In 1986, Babyface ventured into the spotlight with the release of his debut album, “Lovers,” while taking a hiatus from his role in the band The Deele. Shortly thereafter, in 1988, he made the pivotal decision to depart from the band, paving the way for the launch of his second studio album, “Tender Lover,” a year later.
The SKIMs founder told Babyface on speakerphone, “So we’re recording a Christmas album. They’re making us do some singing lesson and I’m dying here, like so embarrassed. Mortified. It’s just not my thing. I’d rather take like three shots and then just go in there and see what we’ve got.” The producer sounded hesitant as he responded: “Yeah.”
Kim then went on, “But how funny would it be if I just tell everyone, ‘I’m too shy, I can’t do it, I’ll figure it out…And I’ll get on a song and then you produce it and I’ll sound amazing?” What song do you think I should do?” Babyface yet again replied, “For you, I think Santa Baby.” The SKKN founder concluded the call, saying, “I feel like I need your help for sure. I’ll let you know.”
After the call to Babyface, Kim triumphantly told the cameras, “I got Babyface, he said he’ll do my background vocals, he said he’ll produce me. This is going to be good!”
Critics slammed the mother of four for trying to “one-up” her sisters by asking for Babyface’s help. Someone raged on Reddit: “Kimzilla the narcissistic can’t help herself if her life depended on it, and had to ONE-UP everyone by calling Babyface. She just couldn’t enjoy the moment with her family. She gave the excuse of ‘how fun it will it be’ if she makes a song that outshines everyone else, with backup vocals and musical arrangements.
The raged Redditor added, ‘”Fun for who? Oh, that’s right, for her ego. She needs to feed her ego. You can see how the mood in the room completely shifted. It went from a togetherness to a division, creating tension.” Another added: “This is the kind of ugly energy Kim brings to the show. Imagine living with her or having to deal with her on a daily basis. She can’t be humble and PART OF the team. She must separate herself, compete, and outshine everyone.”
A third posted: “She’s always trying to upstage everyone.” Elsewhere in the episode, Kim put on a breathy voice as she sang numerous lines from the Christmas hit, Santa Baby, in the recording studio while her family watched. Another scene in the episode, however, saw Kim confess to getting Botox in her neck after years of rumors she’s had plastic surgery. As the vocal coach said, “I’m just talking on the pitch. I’m not using my neck muscles. We have 425 muscles in the neck.” Kim interrupted, “Half of mine are probably Botoxed.”
