Influencer, 31, Deleted All Her Instagram Posts Before She Took Her Own Life

In early May, Niece Waidhofer took to Instagram to wipe out all of her photos and videos, leaving just three posts behind. Her last post appears to have been a selfie in her car on March 25th. The other two are of her with a dog named Puff, who has since died, and of Niece with an unidentified man with whom she said she wanted to spend the rest of her life. 

The influencer had over 4 million followers & regularly spread awareness on advocacy for mental health. 

The move raised severe concerns from her followers and what’s sadder is that the 31-Year-Old also took her own life. Niece was found dead in her home just outside Houston after a concerned family member called for a welfare check. Her family told TMZ that the influencer with no kids took her own life as a result of struggles with her mental health. 

Notably, Niece rose to fame in 2015 after launching the popular Roast Me trend on Reddit. 

“Sadly, Niece took her own life after a long battle with mental health issues. She was very open with her followers about her struggles, even wanting to help followers who also suffered,” a relative told TMZ. In her memory, her family has said they would be establishing a non-profit organization for mental health awareness, which would work to give grants for mental illness research. 

According to the family, the charity will be called Peace From Niece.

Of Niece’s post with an unnamed, the caption had read: “From our very first date, I knew this was the man I want to spend the rest of my life with. Even still, there is nothing that could have prepared me for the elation I felt when he asked me to be his wife. My love, you are all I will ever want. I will love you with my entire heart until I take my last break. Always.” Sadly, those marriage plans never came to pass, with Niece being reportedly single at the time of her passing.

So far, her fans on Twitter and Reddit have been sharing their condolences on social media. 

“RIP to Niece The strong ones who offer to help and advice also need help and advice. Life is happening to everyone. Rest In Peace,” a Reddit user wrote in a post on May 28. Another Redditor said: “It appears she passed away. My condolences to her family & friends, she will be missed.” However, this comes as Niece posted an apology video admitting she edited some of her photos to appear skinnier and curvier.

She then vowed to stop the practice because she didn’t want to perpetuate stereotypical unattainable beauty standards.

On the other hand, the influencer had also apparently been suffering since her father’s death, who died in 2019 after being diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Her family added in their interview: “While it is so very painful to say goodbye, we take comfort knowing she is reunited with her father, her three grandparents, her Uncle Rusty, and her beloved Puff; and that she is now free to be herself and, finally, at peace.”
