‘I didn’t know she was dating a black boy, did you?’ Mom Hits Back At Comments About Her Daughter Dating A Black Guy

What truly matters in a relationship?

Young adults of today are now open to dating people who don’t appear or perhaps think like them. Gen Z has proved to be the most racially diverse generation as more interracial marriage is gradually emerging. Besides, you’ll agree that racism has been quite a controversial situation, yet the bravest thing to do is to shut it down when heard of or experienced.

Heather Boyer of Houston, Mississippi, is among the ever-ready people to shut down comments associated with racism. Her daughter Kennedy recently shared a gorgeous photo of herself with her new boyfriend on Facebook. Instantly, Boyer received a disturbing text from someone who felt she might have an issue with BF’s skin color.

Instead of replying to the text, the mom decided to use the experience to talk about such a kind of mentality in a heartfelt Facebook post. ‘I didn’t know she was dating a black boy, did you?’ Reads the text message. More often, these questions might seem innocent, but it’s mainly something that’s asked when expecting someone to have a problem with it.

Boyer, in her now-viral post, confidently stood up for her daughter’s interracial relationship. ‘Today, my daughter changed her profile picture. After maybe 5 minutes, I get a text: ‘I didn’t know she was dating a black boy, did you?’ It took me all day to think up a response, which I didn’t send personally but thought I would share for anyone else that may not know. Yes, I did know, but the color of his skin doesn’t define who he is.’ Boyer’s post read.

She continued: ‘What does define who is he is how he treats my daughter. I see my daughter dating a boy that comes to my house and shows me nothing but respect (a big deal in my book). It’s always Yes Ma’am, No Ma’am, we talk about football and baseball, he tells me by when he leaves and hasn’t once shown me a lack of manners or respect.’

The heartfelt Facebook post continued:

Boyer explains that she sees her daughter dating a boy who treats her good, takes her on dates, ballgames, and not a club or party on the weekends. ‘I see my daughter dating a boy who takes her to church with him every Sunday. He plays in the band; she sits with his family. How many young men these days make the church a priority? None of the others have.’ Boyer’s post read on.

However, the post has since amassed over 500K likes and has even been inundated with positive comments. But then, Boyer’s public reaction was undeniably a way of calling out the toxic effects of racism while highlighting what’s vital in relationships.
