GoFundMe Shuts Down $1 Million Amber Fundraiser Set Up To Help Pay Johnny
There are plans to continue to look for fake pages and act accordingly.
GoFundMe has officially shut down a fundraiser titled “Justice For Amber Heard,” claiming to help the actress pay Johnny Depp the money she owes him following their blockbuster defamation trial. With a goal of $1million, the page said the 36-Year-Old would have direct access to the funds raised.
It’s unknown exactly how long the fundraiser was live, but it was shut down as it was determined neither Heard nor anyone on her team created the page.
“I believe Amber and social media protected the abuser. The judgment exceeds her net worth. It’s so sad that he was able to get away with the abuse. The judgment furthers that abuse. If you can, please help her. She will have direct access to the money. I also contacted her attorney so they can loop her in,” the page’s description had read.
TMZ reported that a spokesperson for the fundraising site alleged they were able to flat the profile before a reasonable amount of money was raised.
The site also plans to continue to look for fake pages and act accordingly. In an interview with TODAY, Heard’s attorney Elaine Bredehoft had claimed the Aquaman star would not be able to afford the amount of the damages she’s charged with. She alleged Heard had been demonized throughout the trial, adding that: “A number of things were allowed in court that should not have been allowed, and it caused the jury to be confused.”
Elaine also said Heard plans to appeal the jury’s decision as the actress has excellent grounds for doing so.
Heard herself has since made it clear she’s disappointed with the verdict, saying that the outcome indicated a setback in the sense that violence against women should be taken seriously. She added: “I’m sad I lost this case. But I am sadder still that I seemed to have lost a right I thought I had as an American – to speak freely and openly.”
