Ex Wimbledon Champion Looks UNRECOGNIZABLE 3 Years After Quitting Tennis
The former Wimbledon champion had made a notable presence, teaming up with Lewis Hamilton at the Formula One Accelerate Summer event.
In 2004, the former Wimbledon champion rose to prominence when she triumphed over Serena Williams, the top seed and defending champion, on Centre Court, taking her inaugural Grand Slam title at 17 years old. Throughout her career, Maria Sharapova was known for her trademark long blonde hair but after retiring in 2020, she appears to have favored a more natural look.
Just recently, the former Wimbledon champion posted a photo to her Instagram, and most of her fans were in agreement with the new look, after a double take.
Maria, 36, was part of the Formula I Race and made an appearance, joining forces with Lewis Hamilton at the Formula One Accelerate Summer event. She also participated in a panel discussion, advocating for the importance of promoting gender diversity in sports. The beauty has milestones, including being the first Russian player to complete a career Grand Slam and emerging victorious in Melbourne, New York, Paris, and London.

Accordingly, Maria made history by being the third-youngest to triumph at Wimbledon.

However, her journey was marred by a setback in 2016 when she failed a drug test. It was at the time revealed Maria had inadvertently ingested meldonium, a substance prohibited at the start of that year ahead of the Australian Open, resulting in her suspension from professional tennis for two years. Her suspension was later reduced to 15 months when it was revealed she had taken the banned substance under her doctor’s guidance.

Following the suspension lift, Maria returned to competition in April 2017 and yet again triumphed at the Tianjin Open a mere seven months later.

Another sad event saw the champion battle with chronic shoulder issues which eventually led to her retirement in 2020. At the time, Maria expressed her heartfelt emotions in a touching message to her devoted fans, writing, ‘How do you leave behind the only life you’ve ever known. How do you walk away from the courts you’ve trained on since you were a little girl, the game that you love, one which brought you untold tears and unspeakable joys.’
She added, ‘A sport where you found a family, along with fans who rallied behind you for more than 28 years? ‘I’m new to this, so please forgive me. Tennis – I’m saying goodbye.’ Since bidding farewell to her professional tennis career three years ago, Maria entered a new phase becoming a mother to her son, Theodore. She also invested herself in an investment portfolio, including stakes in sports brands such as UFC and wellness tech company Therabody.
