Emily Blunt, 40, Clarifies “Overblown” Comment She’s Quitting Hollywood
Emily Blunt says there’s an emotional cost to her family and as a result, she taking a break from acting.
The Oppenheimer star has assured fans she’s not quitting her acting career as reported by several media outlets. Earlier this week, Emily Blunt made headlines when she revealed on a podcast that she planned to take a break from her job. The “Devil Wears Prada” star explained she feels her children are at the ages where there are cornerstones to their day that she doesn’t wouldn’t want to miss.
In the podcast, Emily Blunt claimed there’s an emotional cost to her and her family when she is consumed with a project and that she’s very prone to guilt.
“This year, I’m not working. I worked quite a bit last year, and my oldest baby is 9, so we’re in the last year of single digits,” Blunt, who shares daughters Hazel, 9, and Violet, 7, with husband John Krasinski, said on iHeart’s “Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi” Monday. “And it’s, ‘Will you wake me up? Will you take me to school? Will you pick me up? Will you put me to bed?’ And I just need to be there for all of them for a good stretch. And I just felt that in my bones.”

“I think maybe all mothers are,” Emily Blunt continued. “You’re just prone to feeling bad for, God forbid, wanting something outside of being a mother.” Now, the mom-of-two has clarified she’s not quitting Hollywood and insisted she was just taking some months off to be with her children. In her interview with Deadline at the London premiere of her new film Oppenheimer, Blunt said, “Honestly, that story got so, sort of, overblown.”
Blunt further told the outlet, ‘“I was just taking some downtime — not quitting Hollywood,” adding she was “just taking some months off to be with the kids.”
However, the actress had earlier stressed that she supports working moms and her comments concerning her career in Hollywood come shortly as she shared that she hopes her children do not pursue acting. “My toes curl when people tell me, ‘My daughter wants to be an actress.’ I want to say, ‘Don’t do it,” she told Harper’s Bazaar UK in an interview published in June. “Because it’s a hard industry, and it can be very disappointing.”

Blunt added, “A lot of people tell you not to take things personally but it’s completely personal, especially when you’re being judged on how you look. So, you just have to endure that side of things.” Meanwhile, the Quiet Place star had narrowly escaped a true wardrobe malfunction at the Oppenheimer photocall in the United Kingdom on Wednesday. She was walking the red carpet alongside co-star Florence Pugh when her blazer popped open. Pugh instantly jumped into action, using her body to shied Blunt.

The actress specifically wore a two-piece gold metallic pantsuit and posing for photos with Pugh when the wardrobe malfunction occurred. Pugh, who rocked a bright blue denim wrap dress with a thick belt and plunging neckline used her body to shield Blunt while she fixed the unexpected wardrobe malfunction. The two actresses giggled as they hugged and fixed the blazer button before taking more photos and continuing to walk the carpet together. They both star in Oppenheimer alongside Matt Damon and Robert Downey Jr.
