Emilia Clarke Is Brutally Slammed On Twitter For Posting A Natural Selfie
People’s inability to accept Clarke’s natural aging is alarming.
The actress is rarely seen without a big smile, and Emilia Clarke is also well-known for her contagious optimism and around-the-clock laughter during public appearances and even on social media. Her recent Instagram post is no different, with the Game of Thrones star sharing a smiling selfie as she posted a gift from her mom.
The gift was a mug, and a text on it read: “You’re doing f**king great.”
In the caption, Clarke revealed in the hashtag that she had a cold: “#mycoldjustgotitsmedicine,” and she added of the text written on the gift: “Mum got me a mug.” I felt it was important to share this new-found wisdom. Use it and reap the rewards. 🤌💪 🥳❤️ ” The comment section instantly saw followers appreciating the candid photo.
Someone wrote: “Your smile is utterly infectious and quite beautiful. Keep shining, you utter goddess.”
Specifically, Clarke’s Instagram bio appears to have given an insight into her mantra, with it reading: “If at first, you don’t succeed, laugh until you do.”
The comments went on, with a second writing: “This is by far the most beautiful woman in Hollwood.”
Another added: “Thank you for laughing so much, Emilia. You make the world brighter.”
However, gamer Jon Miller was quite harsh with his comment, and he’s gone viral for posting a screenshot of Clarke’s and writing: “LMAO wow Daenerys Targaryen didn’t just hit the wall, she flew into its full speed on a dragon.”
Clarke was 24 years old when she got her big break in the HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones, which aired in 2011. She played Daenerys Targaryen, with her 16-year-old character sold into marriage with Khal Drogo by her brother in Season 1. She starred as Daenerys for all 8 seasons of Game of Thrones and later revealed that she had two life-threatening brain aneurysms during filming.
The first was in 2011, and the second was two years later.
In 2019, Clarke then claimed that a large amount of her brain was no longer usable after the health scare and that quite a bit was missing following the surgeries.
“It’s remarkable that I am able to speak, sometimes articulately, and live my life completely normally with absolutely no repercussions,” Clarke had said during a BBC TV appearance.
The actress couldn’t remember her name and had panic attacks during recovery periods, admitting: “in my worst moments, I wanted to pull the plug. I asked the medical staff to let me die.”
But thankfully, Clarke has made full recovery and she’s living life to the fullest.
Following Jon Miller’s tweet, some people shared their agreement, while a few called him out. The discussion resulted in a conversation about the way society views women as they age. Someone quoted Twitter user Jon: “Emilia Clarke was beautiful when she was 22.” She’s still an extremely beautiful woman here. She’s just old. which hasn’t made her any less beautiful.” “I fail to see the problem with this picture.”
Another wrote: “Imagine dunking on a woman because she looked more perfect when she was younger in movie quality lighting, makeup and camera angles.”
It was opined that the increased use of filters and age-defying cosmetic procedures has warped the public’s perception of aging. Someone asked, “This is a normal-looking woman? Do people not know anymore what people outside of edited social media posts look like?
Another commented: “Man learns for the very first time what 36-year-old women with no Botox look like.”
One more echoed: “The rise of surgical and procedural interventions has seriously warped people’s perception and acceptance of other people…..checks notes….. aging naturally.”
Others noted that Clarke is far from the only woman in her 30s to have her looks scrutinized. They highlighted that even women who aren’t famous tend to find themselves in a lose-lose situation.
Someone summarized: “Guys on here will criticize women for getting plastic surgery and Botox but also attack them for being natural.”One more added: “I actually feel for women lol, they can’t dress down and take random pics coz ppl like u will be analyzing their entire existence.”
Someone also wrote: “This trend of shaming women for aging (which is uncontrollable and happens to everyone) is really weird.”
While another said: “Woman takes photo without spending three hours doing makeup, using a dozen filters, and taking over a hundred selfies to pick one to post to Instagram, immediately gets blasted by the internet.”
As per BuzzFeed, Clarke tends to have a positive view on aging, stating she’s happy for her face to reflect the time she has spent living. She had told Elle in an interview: “You’ve got this idea of aging, and then you’ve got the idea of what aging makes you look like.” At 34, I am wiser, more intelligent, I’ve had more experiences, and I’ve done all this stuff, and I’m proud of that.”
