The singer’s relationship with Keyan Safyari appeared to have come to an end as Bebe Rexha shared what’s believed to be a text message from the cinematographer criticizing her appearance. This comes as the singer, who has been linked to Safyari since 2020, was struck by a phone tossed onstage during a June 18 show at The Rooftop at Pier 17 on her Best F’n Night Of My Life Tour.
In the text to Bebe Rexha, a person purported to be Safyari said, ‘You gained 35 pounds; obviously you gained weight and your face changes? Should I just pretend it didn’t happen and that it’s, ok?’
The singer initially posted the shot to Instagram Stories, and it was subsequently posted by Pop Crave. The text continued as Safyari allegedly added, ‘Come on I gained 3 pounds, and you called me chubbs and fat. That doesn’t mean you don’t love me. If you’re trying to find reasons to break up this makes sense… but it’s not the real reason. If you’re unhappy with me/yourself/with life and don’t see a future with us then that’s ok and that’s the reason.’
The person behind the text believed to be Safyari told Rexha that she shouldn’t use the issue of appearance to weaponize her anger, anxiety, or insecurities.
‘You know I always found you to be beautiful and loved you no matter what,’ Safyari purportedly told her. He further advised Rexha, who has in the past been candid about body positivity issues to ‘think about things and write things down, speak to a therapist and do this retreat thing to get to the root of the problem.’ The cinematographer wrapped up, ‘Let me know if you’d like to speak if you need more clarity. Love you.’
Just recently, the singer made headlines after she revealed she gained 30 pounds following a diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome.
‘I went to the doctor last year – and a lot of women actually have this and they don’t know about it – but they diagnosed me with PCOS, which is polycystic ovary syndrome,’ the singer said during a May 25 appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show. Rexha added, ‘It’s one of the leading causes of why women gain weight and are obese.’ I literally jumped, like, 30 pounds so quickly, maybe a little bit more. But we got to just be positive and just show people love.’
In the appearance on the talk show, Rexha also opened up about how she processes the public scrutiny of her weight gain.
‘Listen, we’re in the public eye, so that’s bound to happen,’ she said. ‘I was a lot thinner and I did gain some weight – that comes with the territory. I’m not mad about it because it is true, but when you see things like that, it does mess with you.’ She continued: ‘You don’t know what somebody’s going through, what they’re going through in their life, so it kind of is tough.’
Rexha concluded that she feels in current times, ‘We should not be talking about people’s weight.’ Last month, the I’m Good (Blue) artist spoke about living with PCOS during her appearance on Gayle King in the House on SiriusXM. ‘It’s tough – I think for me, I’ve been definitely struggling with my weight and I’ve been struggling with food forever,’ Rexha said at the time. She cited her past experience, noting the obsession with weight that music industry leaders had demonstrated toward her, with their suggestions.
