We all know that live portraits from the 1500s can be pretty unreliable. We doubt that historical figures looked like that in person because artists were also limited when it came to the resources they had access to. There’s also the preservation of said portraits that could affect how their quality. And then there’s also the fact that some of these portraits are of supposed mythological characters.
