Alec Baldwin Fired A Prop Gun That Killed ‘Rust’ Crew Member And Injured The Director
FIlming is postponed, further updates are to follow.
Reports from New Mexico came in from the set of ‘Rust’ where Alec Baldwin had shot a prop gun with projectiles that ended the life of a crew member and injured the director. The official statement reads that a call for 911 was made from Bonanza Creek Ranch for two victims of gunshot injuries at 2 pm on Thursday.
The statement revealed the details of the victims, “Halyna Hutchins, 42, director of photography, and Joel Souza, 48, director, were shot when a prop firearm was discharged by Alec Baldwin, 68, producer, and actor.”
Charges have not been filed, and an investigation has begun.
“Ms. Hutchins was transported, via helicopter, to University of New Mexico hospital where she was pronounced dead by medical personnel. Mr. Souza was transported by ambulance to Christus St Vincent regional medical center, where he is undergoing treatment for his injuries,” the statement continued.
The office attested that Alec Baldwin had willingly come into the office and was seen sobbing outside the station per Santa Fe New Mexican’s reports. The actor hasn’t given out his comments to the public yet.
Juan Rios from the sheriff’s office explained, “According to investigators, it appears that the scene being filmed involved the use of a prop firearm when it was discharged. Detectives are investigating how and what type of projectile was discharged.”
Halyna was dubbed a ‘rising star’ by American Cinematographer back in 2019. Many from the entertainment industry are expressing their grief and condolences.
The case has reminded people of Bruce Lee’s son, Brandon, who was killed on the set of ‘The Crow’ after a .44 caliber was found lodged near his spine during autopsy.
I’m so sad about losing Halyna. And so infuriated that this could happen on a set. She was a brilliant talent who was absolutely committed to art and to film. pic.twitter.com/vcdFqHsGA0

The movie’s filming schedule has been postponed to at least early November for now. The International Cinematographers Guild’s president, John Lindley, has paid their tribute to the death of the cinematographer, “The details are unclear at this moment, but we are working to learn more, and we support a full investigation into this tragic event.”
Celebrities such as Elijah Woods and model Katya Zharkova have sent their condolences to Hutchins’ family. Elijah Woods wrote, “Absolutely horrifying and devastating news about cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. My heart goes out to her family.”
