Woman Jailed For Sitting For 150 People On Driving Tests For Over Two Years
Most of her clients were not English speakers.
Inderjeet Kaur knows the in and outs of driving tests and one might even say she’s overqualified after passing them 150 times. Though, they were all done in 150 different names as she was actually sitting in for those tests.
Kaur sat for theory and practical tests in Swansea, Carmarthen, Birmingham, and London between 2018 to 2020.
Her roll was broken when test centers began to suspect that she was impersonating some of their candidates. The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency was alerted of her and soon launched an investigation with Tarian, a Southern Wales organised crime team.
Kaur, based in Llanelli, South Wales, appeared to have accepted cash in return to sit in for driving tests for drivers who had language barrier problems. She pleaded guilty and was jailed for eight months. Drivers who used her service are also expected to have them revoked.
Tarian’s Detective Chief Inspector Steven Maloney said, “The crimes Kaur committed put innocent road users at risk by allowing unskilled and dangerous motorists to have seemingly legitimate licenses.”
“Safety on our roads has always been a priority and arresting those that flaunt the law ensures that we can keep unqualified drivers off the road. By working with the DVSA, this complex criminal investigation highlighted the extent of Kaur’s offending which was purely out of greed.”
DVSA’s head of regulatory services and transformation Caroline Hicks added, “The DVSA’s priority is to protect everyone from unsafe drivers and vehicles. Driving and theory tests exist to help ensure people have the correct knowledge, skills, and attitude to drive on our roads.”
“Circumventing the tests puts lives in danger, we have methods in place to detect test fraud and will come down hard on the people involved. This includes canceling test passes that have been gained fraudulently.”
