Hackers Group “Anonymous” Declares Cyber War Against On Russia
Do you also see this as a no big deal?
A collective hacking group named “Anonymous” has set its mission to deactivate several Russian government websites. This is against Russian President Vladimir Putin’s administration as it launches a full-scale invasion of Kyiv amid the continuing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Sources have reported that RT.com, the website of the state-controlled television network, and several other websites were targeted in a broad denial of service [DDoS] attack.
According to ABC News, RT.com has confirmed that the attack occurred, saying it slowed some websites down while others were offline for extended periods of time. Similarly, the Russian government websites, including the Kremlin, the Duma, and the Ministry of Defense, have all been hit by the hacker collective’s cyberattack.
In a series of tweets, the group made it clear it was opposed to Putin’s recent actions against Ukraine, and as it stands, Anonymous is officially in a cyber-war against the country.
However, an Internet Security expert, Robert Potter, has reacted to the activities of the hacker group, saying: “If you’re knocking Amazon off with a DDoS, they lose millions a minute, but for the news website of the Russian Propaganda agency, it’s not such a big deal.”
While Potter strongly believes the attacks will cause no harm, Ukrainians seem to be a bit bothered:
You better realize that cyber attacks aimed at Russia will result in retaliation cyber attacks from Russia! That means OUR internet goes down, and maybe our electrical grids and water plants too.I hope these hackers don’t trigger more harm to us than to RU.Let Biden run this war!
