Man Tweets Story Of A Former Janitor Who’s Now A $20M Brand
He didn’t let the opportunity miss.
“If you had one opportunity to seize everything you ever wanted, in one moment, would you capture it?”
Richard Montañez did not let his opportunity to change his life slip. If you are not familiar with the name, you might be familiar with the popular Flamin’ Hot Cheetos flavor catered to the Latino market. Little do people know this flavor wouldn’t have come to light if it wasn’t for a janitor who observed what was missing.
Entrepreneur Ankith Harathi shared the success story of a janitor.
Richard Montañez: a man who could barely speak English and dropped out of school in 4th grade.
Richard Montañez took ‘act like an owner’ in all seriousness.
The ability to tell what the market wants…
…made him an essential member of the company.
The man came from a family of 14 people that had to cramp in a small home. He also hated school and dropped out of it, he could barely speak English, and he ended up as a janitor in a company that was struggling. But in the midst of struggle, he seized the opportunity and learned everything he could about business strategizing.
He used to make $4/hour as a janitor in a plant. Then he was the VP who not only made $20 million but also saved a company and its workers. His observation ability was what the CEOs of the company needed.
It is also worth noting that the company decided to keep the man as their employee instead of stealing his idea. They did not look down on a man whom many would have considered to be at the bottom of the company. That was a win-win situation for everyone, including us all who enjoy Cheetos!
